GREAT BRAINS MAKE GREAT VIDEO

One of the keys to getting someone to pay attention to your video—one of the best ways to entertain—is to have something interesting to say.

A great example is the TED website (www.ted.com). “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design, and it runs conferences all over the world. At the site, you’ll find hundreds of 18-minute talks filmed during the conference, shot with (I’m guessing) three cameras and then edited together in a very simple, straightforward style.

Without added effects or fancy graphics, these people are fascinating. Their ideas are so strong that they’d be just as interesting if their videos were produced on a webcam from their kitchen table.

TED’s videos suggest that great ideas, even presented simply, hold our attention. Lack of fancy equipment or money is no excuse for subjecting the world to more bad video.

When you release a video, you owe it to your audience to give them a good time. To change their world. To open their eyes. To make them feel. If you do, the fact that you had no money won’t matter. And if you don’t, all the money in the world won’t make any difference at all.
